RYPT Mindset Corner: Weekends
How to succeed in your fitness goals
Plan for success
As a new addition to the RYPT online blogging, I have decided that I will be looking at one idea of psychology each week and reviewing how it can help with your fitness.
This week: The Weekend Diet
We all know the liability to deviate from your fitness plan over the weekend. There are so many temptations that it’s easier just eat to and drink badly.
In reality, three days out of the week (if you include Friday) is vast share therefore you could train at maximum intensity then lose much of the benefit.
We all have friends who are nudging you to go for a drink and the temptation is difficult to resist but there is a fine line with being anti social.
The sad thing is that alcohol is an escape mechanism from many of life’s pains rather than deal with them directly. A few hours to forget about all of life’s woes is only a temporary fix.
All of these factors amount to poor food and drink choices. Whilst I don’t buy into the self-sabotage idea, we need to find things that make us genuinely happy and exercise is a great start.
I’m not an advocate of calorie counting but if you’re unsure of the damage the weekend is doing I would advise trying it for just one weekend so you can be alerted to any potential issue.
It’s easy to get carried away at weekends when there is a lack of structure but discipline comes from having a long term plan. A Nutritional and training plan should factor in rest days and a weekend regime.
Besides if your weekend excesses hamper your energy and training plan then you need to regulate the intake.
Even a couple of hundred extra calories over the weekend and a lack of exercise will have an affect on your waistline. Being conscious of your choices is the first step to controlling them.
So ask yourself; how healthy actually is your weekend? After all, you can do a lot of damage to your body in a couple of days if you’re on a training plan.
